About Me
Akeem Carter is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Economics at Florida International University (FIU), where his primary research interests lie in microeconomics and development economics. His work focuses on the intersection of economic theory and policy, particularly in the context of developing economies.
Prior to joining FIU, Mr. Carter earned his Master of Science in Economics from The University of the West Indies, Mona, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Statistics from the same institution. His academic foundation combines rigorous quantitative training with applied economic analysis.
Mr. Carter is actively engaged in research exploring the heterogeneous impacts of need-based grant programs on student academic performance in Jamaica. His recent co-authored working paper, "Who Benefits Most? Examining the Heterogeneous Impact of a Need-Based Grant Program in Jamaica," investigates the differential effects of financial aid on various student demographics.
In addition to his research endeavors, Mr. Carter serves as a Graduate Assistant at FIU, contributing to both teaching and research activities within the Department of Economics . His academic journey reflects a commitment to understanding and addressing economic development challenges through empirical research.
